Demo Reels and Act Videos

You have an act, and you want to start doing auditions and getting gigs. How do you share your material with companies, clients, producers, fairs/festivals, your friends, and more? It’s time to make some videos!

We’ll share our expertise with you so you can satisfy the needs of so many different clients. We’ll review the differences between a technical skills reel, an act demo reel, an act teaser, and an act video. We’ll look at content, what length they should be, how much production value is needed, who they are for, and where you share them.

We’ll also talk about basic editing tools and concepts that you can use when you make your own videos or share with the person you hire to make your video.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to start booking professional performing work in the near or distant future. Ideal for circus artists with an act but also great for generalists.

About the Coach

Elsie Smith is a founder of NECCA and Nimble Arts. Together with her twin sister, Serenity, she is an award-winning aerialist who has performed for Cirque du Soleil, the International Festival de Circo (Spain), and the China Wuqiau International Circus Festival. Elsie has taught and choreographed for over 30 years, including founding the longest-running professional circus training program in the United States.

She is a founding member of the American Circus Educators Association’s Safety Committee and the American Circus Alliance. In 2021 and 2022, she served as a grant review panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts and has been a judge for VivaFest and other competitions. She has a passion for introducing new circus artists to the world of professional performing.
